Darryl Dawkins, the NBA player known for his thunderous dunks and flamboyant nickname, has died at the age of 58. WMFZ-TV in Allentown, Pennsylvania reports a source confirmed to the station that Dawkins died today. Dawkins made history in 1975, when he became the first player ever drafted directly from high school to the NBA. The native of Orlando played 15 seasons in the NBA, spending the majority of his career with the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Nets. He played in the NBA Finals three times as a member of the 76ers in the late 1970s and early 1980s but never came away with a title.
